House Gecko Care Sheet
Average size: 4 to 5 inches
Life Span: 5 + years with proper care
Feeding: juvenile house geckos need fed daily, but adults can be fed every other day.
Housing: a 10 gallon aquarium with a screen top is good for two geckos, but I have 4 in mine and they are fine. A pelleted or mulch-type bedding works best because it helps hold moisture to keep the humidity up for your gecko. Most pet stores carry a reptile approved substrate that works well. House geckos, like most geckos like to climb, so thick branches are needed for a happy gecko. The humidity for house geckos should be about 75% with a temperature gradiant of 90 F (in the hot end) to 70 F (in the cool end). Mist your house gecko cage 2 to 3 times daily. House geckos need 10 to 12 hours of fluorescent light a day, with an incandescent bulb for basking. Most geckos do not drink from a water blow, but will lap water from their environment when misted. A shallow water bowl should still be provided, though, in case they do want to drink from it. Adult males should be housed separately.
Behavior: these little geckos are fast moving, so are difficult to handle. Their tail can detach, so use caution if you need to handle them.
A healthy house gecko should be active and alert with healthy skin and clear eyes. They should eat regularly and have a rounded and full tail and body. The nose and vent should also be clear of any discharge.
