Care of Blue Geckos

The blue gecko is a very small gecko. They range in size from 2.5 to 4 inches. They are a diurnal, and are very active during the day. The males are a bright blue with heavy black throat stripes. They also have preanal pores and hemipenile bulges. The females of this species is generally green, but can also range from brown to bronze. The have little to no black on their throats. The color of these geckos can vary depending on mood and temperature.

With their small size, these geckos need small food. They will eat mini-mealworms, roach nymphs, pheonix worms, fruit flies, and crickets up to 1/4 inch in size. Calsium supplements are a must with these geckos.

Housing should be a veritcally oriented vivarium with lots of plants and branches to climb on. These little geckos need to have daytime temps around 85 degrees, and a basking spot of 90 degrees. Night time temps should range from 70 to 75 degrees. The humditiy should be from 50% to 70%. Twice daily misting will help keep the humidity up and give the geckos drinking water.

Males are highly territorial and should only be housed one to a group. Once these tiny geckos are acclimated to their new vivarium they are virtually fearless. They tame very easy, but due to their size should not be handled. They will remain active while being observed.
